Happy Friday!
These months are flying by...it's hard to believe summer is nearly 2/3 over! I don't know about you, but I'm ready for the long weekend! But, before we get into the weekend festivities... I've got to come clean on my July runfessions .
I RUNFESS...It's a steam bath in Houston now, I know that complaining about the heat doesn't make it any bettter, but whoa! I've been doing most of my training runs on a treadmill at the gym... I can't imagine trying to do anything but easy runs when the "real feel" is already at 102 at 9:30 am.
These treadmill runs have me going to the gym to do it... in the morning... early. While I have been enjoying being able to get them done first thing and am loving my free evenings! I am not a morning person by any means, and by the time Friday gets here, it's all I can do to stay awake all afternoon.
I got my first calf cramp at a trail race earlier this month. Wow, did that hurt... I seriously thought that I had broken something and was seriously considering a DNF. I probably should have DNF'd, but after massaging it... I was able to run... a little. I ended up walking most of the 2nd half of the 21k. It was a beautiful course and the volunteers were stellar, especially the one at mile 12ish... she had a cooler of ice water we could dunk our hats in.
I took a couple days off from running after the calf incident... that week it just felt a little tight, not sore. Stretching and rolling seemed to help. However, on my long run the pain came back at around mile 7... I kept at it for another 1.5 miles until thoughts of really messing it up got in my head. I called an Uber to take me home.
I have a small problem... it's buying running shoes when they are drastically marked down. I just noticed I have 4 new pair in my "under my desk" stockpile at work, and I have another new pair at home in my office closet.
What do you have to runfess?

I think it's funny that you have a shoe stockpile at work!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with us!
I have a stockpile of shoes under my bathroom sink ...a few are shoes that need to just get donated because they no longer fit/feel right.
ReplyDeleteI can't stockpile shoes because then I get confused over which I bought when and how many miles they have. Yikes on the calf cramps. That's one reason I wear compression socks during races - whether they really help or not they seem to.
ReplyDeleteTry Hot Shots for calf cramps. It's a spicy drink I chug before I run when it's hot/humid. I swear it works! Kudos to you for getting to the gym for mill time!
ReplyDeleteYou might be buying lots of shoes, I am buying too many clothes!
ReplyDeleteI will definitely check those out! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI just go by feel on tracking my shoes, I run in about 4 different pair depending on distance/workout... I'd need a spreadsheet to keep up! The crazy thing is I wore compression socks during this race.
