Workouts – Last Week Today – August 14

fontover_201671013354641-1.jpgHad another great week of running. I’m now in my 5th week training for the Houston Half.  This week was a pretty easy week, with all runs lower mileage and at easy effort.  I begin running 5 days a week next week.

The heat got cranked up another notch this week.  My weather guy says that this week is the peak of summer for Houston, so hopefully from here on out the temps will start easing back down.  It was still 100 degrees at 7:00 pm on Tuesday and 99 at 7:00 pm on Thursday.  Needless to say, I took it easy on my runs and took walking water breaks.

Saturday we took an overnight trip to Galveston. We had so much fun catching up with old friends! Unfortunately my planned kite flying didn’t go as planned as the kite I bought was missing a piece.

Here’s how my week shook out:

Sunday – 11 miles – 5 steady/3 fast/3 steady (average pace 11:09) my fast splits were 10:38/9:54/9:59.

Monday – Rest.

Tuesday – 4 miles easy effort (average pace 10:58).

Wednesday – Rest.

Thursday – 4 miles easy effort (average pace 11:09).

Friday – 4 miles easy effort (average pace 10:40).

Saturday – Rest.

Total miles = 23

Interesting to hear that last week should be your hottest week – I hope that’s the same for us! You got in some great runs.

I hoped we’ve peaked (or are peaking) here for heat as well. What training plan are you using? It is very interesting it adds another day of running to your schedule. I can’t remember the last time I flew a kite. Bummer about that missing piece! That’s a lot of turtle activity to see on your run. Is that in your neighborhood? Thanks for linking, Vicki!

I’m using Jeff Gaudette’s sub 2:15 half marathon plan. The turtles are on a trail that runs along a golf course… they seem to multiply! It isn’t too far from my neighborhood.

I don’t know how you train in that heat! I was in Houston for work last week and stuck to the treadmill!

I’m so over this heat. Oh wait I think I said that back in March too about the cold. We would be satisfied if it stayed between 60-70 days an 50-60 nights right??? Ok maybe not but it’s fun to dream!
Great week for you hang in there.

Way to go! The heat has been rough. I had to cut my run short over the weekend because it was 90 something with humidity that made it feel like 108!

Running in that heat would be tough! Good thing you slowed it down, always best to be smart.

Love Galveston! I hope you got to run there. Sadly I wasn’t running when I lived in TX — so many great places I could have run!

We used to live in Galveston, and I miss it so much… luckily we only moved 1.5 hours north. I packed my running gear for a run on the seawall, but we got a huge thunderstorm during my window to run, I was disappointed.
