Ideal racing conditions

Tuesdays on the RunToday I’m linking up with Erika at MCM Mama Runs, Marcia at Marcia’s Healthy Slice, and Patty at My no-guilt life for Tuesdays on the Run.

The topic for today is racing window of comfort… what are your ideal temperature/conditions for race day?

I’m a little bit like Goldilocks… not too hot, not too cold, I like it just right.

Lately I’ve ran half marathons in the following conditions at start:
46, low humidity – way too cold
70, high humidity – warm, sticky, pretty hot at finish
64, high humidity – nice at start, warm at finish

I tend to like warmer versus colder. I find that I run better when the temperature is at least 55 degrees, any colder and I’m miserable. I like the feel of 70’s when the humidity is low. With that being said, I really don’t care for it when it is too hot either. At about 85 degrees is about the max I can stand with the humidity we get.

My ideal racing conditions would be temps between 55-70, lowish humidity, little to no wind and sunny.  Will I ever get these… who knows… but I’ll definitely keep trying.

I’m with you – I like things on the cooler side with no humidity. I don’t want the sun beating down on me though. Here in SoCal, there is very little shade anywhere we run. So even in cool temps, the sun makes it pretty warm.

That stinks! I’ve got lots of tree cover.

I like running in similar conditions, but I’d rather be colder than warmer during a race!

I think living in the TX heat has just heat conditioned me.

I like being a bit warm rather than cold. I hate being cold while waiting for a race to start!

I’m in awe of those of you who can tolerate heat. I’d much rather run cold than hot. Humidity drains me.

I think I’m just heat conditioned from living in Houston for 8 years.

My ideal running weather is about 65-70 with no humidity though allergies really affect me so usually when the weather is really nice like that, I’m kind of out of commission with allergies.

I can imagine… it gets real tough out in the spring and fall with the different types of pollen.

Yup, count me in as a Goldilocks, too! I agree, I would rather have it warmer than colder. Cold makes my muscles act all wonky.
