When I decided to run a fall marathon, I knew I would need to tackle the hydration issue for long runs in the heat of the summer. I already had a handheld that I liked to run with, it’s good for runs up to 10 mile. A hydration vest seemed to be the answer to all my problems – storing large amounts of hydration plus fuel and other comfort items.
Originally, I had another hydration vest that I used and liked ok… until the day all the chafing from it happened. Holy smokes! Not wanting to go through chafing h#ll again, I began the search for a different hydration vest.
Hands Free Hydration – Orange Mud Endurance Pack Review
My search led me to Orange Mud… upon looking at their packs, I noticed that everything sat higher on the body. The higher carrying profile certainly appealed to this short girl! I ordered up an Orange Mud Endurance Pack to try out.
The Endurance Pack is not gender specific, but you can customize it to fit your shape. The front has 2 straps that are adjustable and stretchy. You can adjust the front strap fit between the 4 different anchor points. The straps on the side are also adjustable, but not stretchy. The outside of the vest is constructed with a durable, stretchable fabric, on the inside of the vest is a breathable mesh.
It comes with a 2L Hydropack bladder that opens on the top with a sliding mechanism. The hose has a quick disconnect for cleaning. I found the hose to be a bit long, but if you are brave enough you can cut it to the size you need. The bladder hooks up to the bladder compartment in the vest by a velcro tab.
There is a ton of storage in this thing. Two front pockets that can hold a ton of stuff – my phone fit nicely in these. You can snug up the pockets via the cord and will fit the Orange Mud 15oz Soft Flask. There are 2 shoulder pockets that close with velcro, good for storing fuel. On the back, in addition to the bladder compartment, there is another compartment equally as large and then a zippered elastic pocket.
In addition to the pack, you can purchase optional accessoreies such as trekking pole holders and an additional bag to add on for even more storage.
I really can’t say enough good things about this hydration pack! I have experienced ZERO chafing with this pack. It is lightweight… doesn’t bounce… and is comfortable. In fact, there were times when I forgot I had it on. It has gotten me through marathon training during the Houston summer and I expect it to get me through many more seasons of running.
I purchased the Orange Mud Endurance Hydration pack with my own money, all opinions are my own.
